This blog is about my birding exploits, which mainly take place in the Weymouth/Portland area, in Dorset. Will also include stuff from elsewhere, plus some other critters too. Hope you enjoy. Black Adder

Time for a bit of a catch up me thinks.

Monday 5th February found me dipping on the Long-billed Dowitcher on Lodmoor, because of this....

This 2nd-calendar year female Marsh Harrier.
Yes, it probably flushed the bird I wanted to see, as I couldn't find it anywhere.

These Black-tailed Godwits were also flushed by the harrier.

A little compensation for dipping on the dowitcher was this adult Spoonbill.

Had an excellent day out on The Fleet on Sunday 11th March, with the highlights being,

3 female/immature Velvet Scoters off Abbotsbury Beach.
2 Red-throated Divers off Abbotsbury Beach.
1 Black-necked Grebe at Abbotsbury Swannery.
1 Firecrest on Linton Hill.
8 Knot at Rodden Hive.
The Richard's Pipit still at Littlesea, in the Bridging Camp.
The Black Redstart still at Littlesea, in the Bridging Camp.
3 wary Barnacle Geese in Cuttcleaves Cove.
The Hume's Warbler was heard at Littlesea Holiday Camp.
2 Chiffchaffs at Littlesea were my first summer migrants of the year.

A melanistic Adder, a day flying Noctule Bat, a Stoat and my first 2 butterflies of the year added to the days tally.

The black Adder. A stunning creature. As you can see, even the eyes are black, normally they're a deep wine red colour.

2 of the 3 Velvet Scoters seen.

1 of the 2 Red-throated Divers seen.

A few other photos from Sunday.

A Curlew heading west at Abbotsbury.

1 of 4 Ravens that were causing havoc in the Rookery at Littlesea.

Always a delight, a Blue Tit at Littlesea.
