This blog is about my birding exploits, which mainly take place in the Weymouth/Portland area, in Dorset. Will also include stuff from elsewhere, plus some other critters too. Hope you enjoy. Purple Gallinule At Minsmere, Suffolk

Thanks to the kind offer of a lift by Chris Patrick, got to see this stunning first for Britain. Have previously seen the species in both Portugal and Spain. Minsmere was excellent, with a back up cast of Bittern, Marsh Harrier, 29 Little Gulls, 7 Spotted Redshank, Little Stint, 4 Little Ringed Plovers and 5 Ruff.

The Purple Gallinule was sooo blue.

Takes a size 12 shoe, I believe.

Bittern

Marsh Harrier

First time I'd seen one of these dark headed juveniles with the pale colouration restricted to the nape.
